Commercial baked goods are sadly full of refined sugar, cheap refined flours, highly processed cooking oils and chemical additives. By using these ingredients, food manufacturers can produce food cheaply and in abundance. Unfortunately, these ingredients do not contribute to our good health.
Luckily, making clean eating cakes isn’t difficult and it doesn’t take as long as you might imagine! In fact, most of these recipes can be knocked up in the space of half an hour. A job for the weekend perhaps?
You can adapt many recipes to make them clean, by swapping butter for margarine, coconut sugar for granulated sugar, wholemeal flour for plain flour. Not all recipes are suitable for adaptation, but the more you bake, the more you will develop a feel for ingredient substitutions.
