Good food costs more money. Well, sometimes it does yes. If you eat a diet of organic fruit and veg from an organic supermarket, and grass-fed, free range meat from the local farm shop then your weekly food bill might be pretty eye-watering.

But if you are prepared to make a few compromises, and learn to plan and budget effectively, then it is possible to eat clean on a budget.

Your diet choices are not confined to either costly high-end produce, or at the other end of the scale, a cheap diet including, for example, hotdogs composed of 19% mechanically recovered meat and processed white bread. It is entirely possible to clean up your diet, remove processed food and eat well, on a very small budget.

No specialist equipment required

The Green Apple Club 28 DAYS Clean Eating Challenge doesn’t require you to have any cooking skills or any specialist equipment. All you need is a mug or cup for measuring, a hob, an oven and some cooking pans. The Economy 28 DAYS meal plan provides a basic template. If you follow the template exactly, you can eat 3 full meals and 2 snacks for less than £5 a day. The meals from the template plan are filling, tasty and nutritious. Alternatively you can choose either the the Weight-Loss or Premium meal plan.

Learn the skills needed

The meal challenge will teach you how to prepare unprocessed meals, for the smallest amount of money possible. The meal plan includes small amounts of minimally processed wholegrain rice and pasta to help you to bulk out your meals at low cost.

The meal templates are flexible enough to allow you to substitute meats and vegetables that you find on offer in supermarket discount sections and in local markets. You can add spices and herbs from the approved list of additional ingredients, and you can find and share recipes on The Green Apple Club 28 DAYS forum discussion boards.

Our members receive all of the tools that they need to feed themselves and their families, good, clean, unprocessed food on any sized budget. The rules

No processed food is allowed other than the minimally processed foods on the once a day list (brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, whole-grain bakery bread).
