Sweet Fig Smoothie for Digestion

This deliciously clean eating fig smoothie is naturally sweet and smooth, with flavours of coconut, fig and cinnamon. Not only is this fig smoothie delicious, it is also brilliant for supporting the digestive system and relieving blockages. You can use this drink to help naturally relieve and prevent constipation.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF DRIED FIGS:

Dried figs contain plenty of soluble and insoluble fibre. This fibre is not absorbed from the bowel into the body to be used for energy. Instead, the soluble fibre draws liquid into the bowel to soften the stool and the insoluble fibre helps its movement through the digestive system.

Method

  1. Chop the date and the figs (stem removed), then add all of the ingredients to your blender – the order in which you add your ingredients will depend on your blender type (follow manufacturer’s instructions).
  2. Blend until really smooth. A powerful blender will grind the fig seeds completely, a less powerful blender will yield a less smooth drink, however do not sieve out the seeds as they are important for this smoothies digestive attributes.

 

*We used CoYo coconut yoghurt in this shake. If you don’t have access to a pure coconut yoghurt, you can substitute 150 mls of coconut milk for the water and yoghurt.

**You can buy partially rehydrated figs from large supermarkets (also known as ‘soft figs’). If you can’t find these figs, replace with either fresh figs, or dried figs soaked in hot water for 15 minutes.
